6 Free Incentive Ideas for Online School Fundraisers

Inspiring student participation often begins with a compelling incentive to sell tickets for online school fundraisers. Many schools will first consider paid incentives like sweet treats, special apparel or a special field trip off school grounds. But not all incentives need to have dollar signs behind them.

In this blog, we are sharing six free fundraising incentive ideas to drum up excitement among your students for your next online school fundraiser.

1. Extended Recess or Study Hall

Do your students always ask for extra recess time or 10-more minutes in study hall? Extending the winning class’s recess or study hall time may be the fundraising incentive your students need to hit their raffle ticket sales goal.

Your school may also take this idea a step further by adding a competition or activity during that additional time. Some opportunities to extend the experience include:

  • Kickball Game
  • Wiffle Ball Tournament
  • Karaoke in the Gym
  • P.E. Game of Choice
  • Chalk Art on the Black Top

2. Special Clothing Day

Clothing fundraising incentives are a simple way to capture the interest of students, teachers, and staff. For private schools who wear a uniform, it gives the winning classroom the opportunity to have a dress-down day. In St. Louis, one of our Catholic high schools, proposed an all-school pajama day for students who met their raffle ticket sales quota.

While public schools don’t always have a required uniform for school days, your fundraising team could spin the incentive to invite the winning classroom to choose a themed outfit day for the whole school. From favorite movie characters to sporting your favorite jersey, there are plenty of ideas your students could choose from.

3. Class Outside

Take the learning outside the classroom with a lesson held outdoors. This fundraising incentive for your next online school fundraiser answers the common student question: “Can we have class outside?” Allow your winning class to take one subject outside the classroom walls on campus or in a nearby park.

4. Board Game Party

Invite the winning classroom or top-selling students to bring in their favorite board game from home to share during a board game party! If your students sell enough of your fundraiser’s raffle tickets, set up a few tables and chairs and provide a time limit for how long the party will last during the school day. You may also add to the fun by encouraging your students to bring snacks to share or see if your cafeteria can provide party snacks.

5. Teacher Activities

There’s no activity that drums up student competition more than a fundraising incentive involving their teachers. Elementary students may enjoy a special story time with their teacher or principal while middle school students may love a teacher swap for a day. Here are a few more examples of teacher activities you can use as your next online school fundraiser’s incentive:

  • Pie a Teacher
  • Teachers vs. Student Sporting Event
  • Teacher Wears a Costume
  • Teacher or Principal for a Day

6. Classroom Movie Party

Let your winning classroom set the textbooks and studying aside for an afternoon classroom movie party for your next online school fundraiser. Elevate the incentive with a build your own popcorn station or some movie treats like candy or cookies from the cafeteria. Once a classroom has won the incentive, allow them to choose the movie from your list or ask them to provide a list of their favorites to vote on with their peers.
